This year’s Eistnaflug rock festival in East Iceland will be brought to a glittering conclusion by Icelandic pop sensation Páll Óskar.

Eistnaflug is a midsummer rock festival held in the eastern town of Neskaupstaður drawing large crowds of rock and heavy metal fans. This year’s dates are 6-9 July.

Event organisers have now announced that the finale for this year’s event will be taking on a slightly lighter tone with a set by Iceland’s king of spangly pop, Páll Óskar.

Páll Óskar is not usually associated with a heavy metal crowd, being perhaps best-known abroad for his ahead-of-it’s-time risqué performance at the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest.

Both artists and festival-goers are reportedly delighted with the news.

“I have never looked forward to playing at a festival as much as I am now to play at Eistnaflug,” the Icelandic pop veteran says, promising to end the festival with “every trick in book” and holding nothing back…
