Danish-Icelandic artist Ólafur Elíasson has been hired by France’s stunning Palace of Versailles to set up an exhibition dedicated to Louis XIV – the ‘Sun King’ – this summer.

On the back of several other successful exhibitions on French soil, Elíasson promises a combination of indoor and outdoor delights in his new Versailles project.

“I would like to use the water in the gardens, play ‘gardener’ myself and use light – as I always do in my work,” the artist tells French new website Le Figaro.

“Inside, I think my work will take me in the direction of Baroque, Baroque [Vienna, see below], but I don’t intend simply to make a copy. Everything must be enlarged, given the scale of Versailles!”
