Video: Lives in a teepee in Reykjavik in the cold and snow

Tryggvi Hansen decided to stop taking part in modern Icelandic society and raised himself a tent in quiet woodlands on the outskirts of the city. Despite snow, storms and freezing temperatures he's nowhere near giving up. Some people might call him crazy but he thinks it's the other way round.

Iceland Monitor visited Tryggvi twice last week to chat about living in a tent and his views on Icelandic society. "Every one is doing the middle-class drugs," he says, referring to consumerism. He believes a modern way of life is unsustainable and unhealthy.

Hansen has great interest in human history and Icelandic history and believes our world view is based on the symbolism of religion. He thinks civilisation is far from being a positive development and thinks people should back to living in small communities in a sustainable manner in harmony with nature, which in his opinion is much healthier for mind and body.

The winter in the tent has not gone without its trials however. It started leaking, and the winds have blown it over. When the worst cold hit, a chilly -17° Hansen managed to keep warm next to his fire and by wearing numerous layers of clothing.
