St Petersburg Swan Lake in Reykjavik
Reykjavik was graced this weekend by the visit of the St Petersburg Festival Company, bringing four performances of the famous Swan Lake ballet to Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre.
Swan Lake – the story of love between Princess Odette and Prince Siegfried, thwarted by the evil Von Rothbart – is one of the world’s most famous and popular ballets.
Harpa laid on afternoon and evening performances this weekend, with the music – by Tchaikovsky – played by the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.
State theatres in Russia rarely go on tour, so this was a rare and unmissable opportunity for ballet lovers. Some photos from one of Sunday’s performances can be seen above.
