Home of the mussel
Saturday, April 29, 2017 - 12:00
Departure in private cars from the offices of FÍ, Mörkin 6
Mussels are both wholesome and tasty; however, they can be risky to gather for consumption during certain periods of the year in Iceland. Gísli Már Gíslason, Professor at the Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences, and Halldór Pálmar Halldórsson, Director of the University of Iceland’s Research Centre in Suðurnes, guide the annual tour in the home of the mussel in Hvalfjörður. We will gather mussels, learn about it and how to process it. The participants will get the opportunity to taste mussels and other creatures from the sea; if they dare!
Rendez-vous at the offices of the Iceland touring Association, Mörkin 6, departure together in private cars. The tour will take approximately three hours; including the drive to Hvalfjörður. Please remember to bring a container for the mussels, dress according to weather, wear boots and rubber gloves.
The tour is a collaboration between the Icelandic Touring Association and the University of Iceland. Participation is free of charge and everyone is welcome.
