A majority of Icelanders remain opposed to joining the European Union (EU), according to a new opinion poll conducted by MMR. This has been the case for over seven years.

The new poll has 50.6% opposed to EU membership and 28.2% in favour. Roughly a third of respondents are strongly opposed to joining the bloc, while just 11.4% are strongly in favour.

A similar poll produced by MMR in January saw 47% reject EU membership, with 36.2% in favour.

Removing those respondents not giving a specific answer to the question, a total of 64% of Icelanders oppose EU membership, while 36% are in favour.

Every poll produced in Iceland since July 2009 has shown a majority against EU membership.
