Iceland no longer EU candidate

Iceland has been removed from the EU’s list of countries having applied to join the Union, according to the European Commission’s website.

The Icelandic government informed the EU in March that Iceland was no longer to be considered a candidate country. A reply was received just over a month later promising “practical adjustments to the EU Council working procedures”.

According to the European Delegation to Iceland this move is part of the EU’s efforts to accommodate the government’s wishes. The move has been ratified by the Council of the European Union.
