Companies turning against the euro

More than half of members of The Icelandic Federation of Trade don't see the króna as Iceland's future currency according to a new opinion poll or some 54 percent while 27 percent want to hold onto the national currency.

Meanwhile 40 percent of IFT members oppose the idea of adopting the euro as Iceland's currency through membership of the European Union while 39 percent say they favour that. This is a big change since last year when 57 percent said they wanted to adopt the euro by joining the EU and 28 were opposed. The IFT members were also asked if they wanted another currency to be unilaterally adopted in Iceland with 40 percent rejecting the idea and 27 percent agreeing to it.

Sixty percent of the IFT members said the accession talks with the EU, put on ice in 2013 by the Icelandic government, should have been continued with 22% opposed to that idea. But at the same time 41 percent of the members reject joining the EU while 29 percent are in favour.
