French tourist trapped under snow found dead

The French tourist trapped under ice and snow after falling into a South Iceland river on Tuesday evening has been found dead, it has been confirmed.

A huge team of search and rescue worked toiled night day to rescue the hiker, who had fallen into a river in the South Iceland ravine of Sveinsgil and was dragged underneath a dense packed of ice and snow straddling the river.

Police have confirmed that the man was dead when he was found late last night. His body has been retrieved from the river and transported to a nearby town.
